US Investment in Ireland 

Today, over 155,000 people are directly employed in over 700 US firms in Ireland. US firms indirectly support a further 100,000 jobs in the Irish economy, in total acounting for 20% of employment in Ireland. 

Collectively US investment in Ireland amounts to $446bn.  US investment in 2018 accounted for 67% of all foreign direct investment in Ireland.

US firms in Ireland form a critical part of Ireland’s cutting -edge, internationally traded goods and services economy in industries such as information & communications technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technologies and financial services.

Ireland- A Gateway to Europe

Ireland is the gateway to Europe for many US companies accessing European & International markets. Ireland, which represents just 1% of the European  economy, attracted 12.6% of all US FDI investment to Europe in 2016.

Social Impact

US companies are responsible for significant social benefits in their local communities and throughout the entire country by providing innovative and inclusive social impact programmes and other activities. In 2015 alone, employees of US companies contributed over 600,000 work supported volunteer hours to 7,300 CSR projects.

Irish Investment in the US

Irish investment in the US continues to see strong growth.  While exports from Enterprise Ireland client companies grew by 7 % to € 3.6 bn in 2017, there has also seen considerable growth in investment by Irish companies in the US.

Enterprise Ireland client companies opened 119 offi ces over the past 2 years, 60 of which were opened in 2018. Of the 100,000+ people employed in the US by Irish companies, employment at Enterprise Ireland client companies grew by 5.1 % to over 85,000 in 2018, this growth was across 38 states in all regions and sectors. Additionally the number of offices from over 500 Irish exporters grew by 21 % to over 950 in 2018. 

US affiliate sales generetd by Ireland's investment amounted to $116bn. US jobs attributable to goods and services destined for Ireland from the US ammounts to over 325,000. Read more about Irish investment in the US in US-Ireland Business 2019.
