After a marathon of inspiration, energy and exhaustion, the inaugural Innovation Challenge Overall Winners title was awarded to LiveWorkPlayIreland, a mentoring system designed to help emigrants return to Ireland by connecting them with those who have already made the move.
The winners faced off stiff competition from nine other contesting teams with concepts that included a network of community gardens funded through corporate support, an initiative to increase employee health through connected technology and an online platform described as a ‘netflix for food.’
For the judging panel, the winning concept of LiveWorkPlayIreland dealt most effectively with their target group - emigrants thinking of returning to Ireland – by providing them with an innovative toolkit and a ready-made contact base to make that move easier.
The objective set for the Hackathon was to conceptualise services and products that ensures Ireland keeps its status as one of the world’s best places to live and build a rewarding career. Over one hundred participants from American Chamber member companies underwent an intensive 54 hour experience of back-to-back sessions, ice breakers, design thinking workshops, pitching sessions and presentations led by a team of steering mentors. Final pitches were judged by a panel of experts and the winner was announced on Saturday evening.
Finalising proceedings, Mark Redmond, American Chamber Chief Executive said the participants had been ‘a true, compelling and credible voice’ for member companies and had shown passion for communities across Ireland. Organiser of the Hackathon, Director of Special Projects Katie Keogh said: “where we had great success was bringing together a new generation of leaders to share experiences. They gave us more confidence than ever that Ireland’s future is in good hands to receive, maintain and grow investment.”
LiveWorkPlayIreland will present their winning idea to the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland in May. The Innovation Challenge was held in association with the DCU Ryan Academy and sponsored by Emergenetics, Intel Ireland, Coca Cola, Mastercard Ireland, Temple Bar Hotel, Dublin Airport and Alexion.
