Today, the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland (AmCham) joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD).

On this IWD, I would like to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions that women have made to AmCham, to our member organisations, and to our communities around the country, and indeed around the world.

AmCham member companies are among the most successful and innovative companies globally, and their work is saving and enhancing lives around the world. Women are playing a crucial role in leading this success.

In a recent AmCham FDI Insights survey, 77 percent of respondents said that more than 30 percent of senior leadership roles within their organisation are held by women.

They are playing a vital role in the work that has led to Ireland producing 4 out 5 medical stents, 50 percent of all hospital ventilators, and 1 in 3 contact lenses used around the world.

The contributions of women to Ireland’s workforce have contributed to Ireland being ranked 1st globally for attracting and retaining talent, and the 7th most innovative country in the world.

The incredible women working in this country have helped us to attract 970 US multinationals to Ireland, employing 378,000 people directly and indirectly and spending €41 bn in the Irish economy annually.

AmCham Ireland demonstrates our commitment to equality by having a gender balanced Board and we have extended gender balance requirements to our advocacy work.

Today, we honour the progress that has been made in advancing gender equality and empowering women to reach their full potential. We also acknowledge that there is still much work to be done to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to succeed, and that gender-based discrimination and violence are eradicated.

We know that AmCham members are leading the way when it comes to achieving gender balance in our workplaces, and AmCham is fully committed to supporting our members in this area.

As we celebrate the women in our organisation and in our lives, I encourage all of us to continue working towards a future where women are able to thrive and fulfil their potential in every aspect of life.

Once again, happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women in our organisations and around the world.
