Proposed Legislation Would Make Social Media Directors Criminally Liable

In relation to the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill, Fianna Fáil Senators have met with the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, to press for amendments to the draft legislation to allow for criminal sanctions for directors of social media companies.

The inclusion of such sanctions would, in effect, make directors of social media companies personally criminally liable where there is a failure to police the use of their platforms in relation to online harm.
