Minister Simon Harris TD, Launches AmCham’s 2023 US-Ireland Business Report in San Francisco

Minister Simon Harris, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science joined AmCham on Tuesday, for the San Franscisco launch of its 2023 US-Ireland Business Report, ‘Ireland – Strengthening Transatlantic Ties.’ 

Speaking at the launch, AmCham 2023 Vice President, Elaine Murphy, spoke about the importance of the US-Ireland trade and investment relationship.  

Ms Murphy said: The Report highlights the attractiveness of Ireland as a place to live, work innovate and grow a business and shows that the US-Ireland trade and investment relationship is continuing to grow and thrive, despite ongoing challenges in the global economy.” 

She added: “The importance of US FDI in Ireland is hugely significant for Ireland.  Approximately 950 US companies have operations in Ireland, employing 376,000 people directly and indirectly – an increase of 10 percent on 2021 figures. Furthermore, US spending in Ireland amounted to €31 billion last year, a significant investment in Ireland and a key cornerstone of the Irish economy.” 

Ms Murphy also spoke about the contribution of Irish companies to the US. She said: “The US-Ireland relationship is very much a two-way relationship. Ireland is the 9th largest source of US FDI and over 650 Irish firms have bases in the US, employing approximately 100,000 people across all 50 States.”
