Following her appearance before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in September, the nomination of the Ambassador-Designate to be US Ambassador to Ireland was approved by the Foreign Relations Committee in October, and subsequently confirmed by the US Senate in December. On Wednesday, the Ambassador Designate was sworn in during a formal sitting in the Massachusetts House chamber.
Ambassador Designate Cronin, who is a lawyer, has served as Majority Leader, and as a Representative, in the Massachusetts legislature. Following her swearing-in, the Ambassador-Designate will now travel to Ireland and will present her credentials to President Michael D. Higgins, before formally taking up her duties as US. Ambassador to Ireland.
