AmCham is delighted to both congratulate and warmly welcome the new US Ambassador to Ireland, Clare D. Cronin, who has formally presented her credentials to President Michael D. Higgins today.

The American Chamber of Commerce Ireland (AmCham) looks forward to working with Ambassador Cronin in her role as US Ambassador to Ireland, and continuing our close collaboration with the US Embassy in Dublin to deepen the two-way US-Ireland trade and investment relationship .

Mark Redmond, Chief Executive at AmCham said: “We are delighted to welcome Ambassador Cronin to Ireland.

“AmCham believes that the US-Ireland transatlantic trade and investment relationship is now more important than ever.”

“As the only common-law English-speaking country in the European Union, Ireland is the key gateway for US business to the critically important EU market. But this is truly a two-way relationship – Ireland is the 9th biggest investor in the US and Irish companies employ almost as many people in the US as US companies employ here.”

“Amid the global Covid-19 pandemic, the deep US-Ireland relationship helped business on both sides of the Atlantic to work together and rapidly provide the medical technology and pharmaceutical innovations that helped to save countless lives across the globe.”

“Ambassador Cronin has strong Irish roots and extensive experience having worked across many policy areas during her time as a Representative in the Massachusetts legislature and AmCham looks forward to working with her to further enhance the US-Ireland trade & investment relationship.”

Ambassador Cronin was first elected as a Representative in the legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in November 2012 and became the first female House Majority Leader in the Massachusetts legislature in February 2021.

President Biden nominated Claire Cronin as Ambassador Designate to Ireland in June. Ambassador Cronin was confirmed by the U.S Senate in December and sworn-in as Ambassador in January, prior to travelling to Ireland. Having presented her credentials to President Michael D. Higgins today, Ambassador Cronin will formally take up her duties as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland tomorrow.
