AmCham was thrilled to partner with The Irish Times on its Special Thanksgiving Supplement as part of its annual celebrations.

The supplement includes articles from AmCham CEO Paul Sweetman and AmCham 2025 President Liz Cunningham on the enduring strength of the US-Ireland economic relationship and the business opportunities for Ireland in the space of digital and AI respectively.

Speaking on the benefits of the US-Ireland business relationship Paul said “In 2024, US companies also indirectly supported 169,000 jobs in Ireland. Those companies contribute more than €40 billion to the Irish economy annually on payroll, goods and services and capital expenditure.”

However, Paul also noted talent and skills, and infrastructure development remain key areas for attention to strengthen this relationship. Paul said “Over two-thirds of AmCham members have difficulty filling vacancies and the number one barrier for them is a shortage in those specialist skills.”

He continued “the ability to attract and retain international talent plays a key role in facilitating inward investment and business expansion” while we also need to “make sure that the pipeline of talent coming through the universities and the apprenticeship system is maintained.”

In the article featuring AmCham 2025 President Liz Cunningham she highlighted that “Ireland’s continued success as a destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) will be determined by how we embrace and accelerate AI, digital transformation and the emerging technologies reshaping industry worldwide”.

She continued, while “Ireland is already well positioned to be a global leader in these industries" further measures to "enhance investment in Ireland’s higher-education institutional infrastructure and to expand the range of apprenticeships available in areas including digital and data and machine learning will be beneficial in ensuring Ireland’s talent pool is best placed to grasp the opportunities of the future.”
