AmCham Congratulates US Ambassador to Ireland as he Assumes Office

AmCham is delighted to both congratulate and warmly welcome the new US Ambassador to Ireland, Edward S. Walsh, who formally presented his credentials to President Michael D. Higgins at a ceremony at Áras an Uachtaráin this week.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Walsh called his new position “the honour of a lifetime”.
He said: “The United States and Ireland enjoy a relationship rooted in friendship, strengthened by partnership and enriched by deep people-to-people ties.” Mr Walsh said he is committed to building on that foundation and “working closely with our Irish partners to advance our mutual interests”.
Ambassador Designate Walsh, a seasoned businessman and philanthropist, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is the founder and president of the Walsh Company, a New Jersey-based construction and real estate firm established in 2003. Prior to this, he served as a senior vice president at Gale & Wentworth, a diversified real estate investment and services company. His commitment to public service is evident from his tenure as chairman of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority from 2010 to 2018, where he oversaw significant improvements in educational infrastructure.
AmCham said: “AmCham Ireland would like to extend its warmest congratulations to congratulations to Ambassador Designate Walsh."
The Ambassador Designate’s strong business background and commitment to public service align with the values that underpin the strong and deep U.S.-Ireland relationship.
Ireland is now the 6th largest investor into the US, with Irish companies employing 203,000 people across all 50 states. Similarly, there are over 970 US companies in Ireland, directly employing 210,000 people.
“Ireland's position as the only common-law, English-speaking country in the European Union makes it a strategic bridge between the U.S. and Europe.
AmCham looks forward to working with Ambassador Walsh and the team at the US Embassy in Dublin to further strengthen and enhance this mutually beneficial partnership.
