On Thursday April 14, AmCham attended the 2022 Global Ireland Summit, which examined the role of the Government’s ‘Global Ireland 2025’ programme in expanding Ireland’s influence and impact around the world.

The theme of the Summit was Ireland Reconnecting. Discussions at the Summit focused how we can deliver on the ambition of the Global Ireland programme to double Ireland’s impact in the world by 2025 through engagement with key international institutions in dealing with the challenges we face.

The Summit included an expert-led exploration of how Ireland reconnects with the world and delivers on the Government’s Global Ireland ambition in the crises facing the world at present – the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It also examined the opportunities and responsibilities arising from our membership of the EU and the UN Security Council.

Speakers addressing these issues include An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness, the Secretary General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann, Deputy Director Chatham House, Dr. Renata Dwan, An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Minister Eamon Ryan.

Speaking during his address, An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin said: “As we meet today with a terrible war raging in Europe, where hard power is doing its damnedest to cast aside multilateral institutions and international law, we need to redouble our efforts to ensure that hard power for hard power’s sake does not win.  Russia must not benefit from this conflict.”
