Minister for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation Robert Troy T.D. together with Lieutenant Governor for California, Ms. Eleni Kounalakis, jointly launched AmCham Ireland’s Stateside guide focused on Irish companies seeking to scale their operations in California. The launch was marked by a virtual roundtable on trade and investment in association with the Consulate of Ireland in San Francisco, Enterprise Ireland, and California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).
President of the American Chamber, Gareth Lambe said:
“There is the huge potential to grow the California-Ireland trading relationship. California is an important and varied destination for Irish business with over 10,000 people in California employed by Irish companies across a diversity of sectors and over 30,000 Irish people are employed by California based companies in Ireland.
US investment in Ireland continues to go from strength to strength despite Covid-19, and the value of the trade and investment relationship is felt in both directions with Ireland being the 9th largest investor in the US.
We are grateful to the business leaders who have participated in the guide and share AmCham’s drive to continue to make California and the wider US a successful destination for Irish investment”
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy T.D. said: “With the inauguration of President-Elect Biden due to take place on 20 January next and the recent publication of the paper by the European Commission on the future EU-US agenda, this was an opportune time to make these transatlantic connections with our largest trade and investment partner in the US, California. We strongly support enhanced transatlantic cooperation on issues of mutual interest including climate, the digital agenda, research, trade, investment and in combatting unfair commercial practices by third countries. As Minister for Trade Promotion, this was an ideal opportunity to reinforce the strong economic relationship between Ireland and California.”
Paul Burfield, SVP, Head of Western United States for Enterprise Ireland said:
“Enterprise Ireland provides hands-on supports to a growing number of more than 300 Irish companies that are active across the State of California where on average an Irish company creates a new presence in this vibrant State every 3-4 weeks. The opportunity to expand on this success is significant and we are delighted to support the launch of this practical guide and welcome the assistance of AMCHAM in delivering on the ambitions of Irish companies to succeed in California and across the wider USA”
