Apple invest €850m in Galway Data Centre

  • Release Date: 23/02/2015

The American Chamber of Commerce Ireland has welcomed today's news that Apple is to open a new data centre in Galway with a €850m investment.

Speaking on the announcement, American Chamber Chief Executive, Mark Redmond said, "Today's investment by Apple is a tremendous vote of confidence in Ireland as a location for investment and further establishes the country's reputation as the data capital for Europe. Apple has been present in Cork since 1980, and their Irish presence has been an integral part of the company's phenomenal success in recent years. Ireland has a strong track record as a world class location for ICT and data companies and we expect these positive investments to continue.

"It is particularly welcome that this is a truly green investment as Apple will run this new facility entirely with renewable energy. Also welcome is the company's commitment to working with the local community through initiatives with Coillte and the provision of new facilities for local schools."
