Mindset & Performance - AmCham Conference, Ebay, Blanchardstown

Guest Speaker: Various

Proudly Sponsored by: Laya Healthcare

Laya Healthcare

International research has shown that culture contributes between 20% and 30% to the bottom line and those companies whose cultures emphasized all the key managerial constituencies and leadership from managers at all levels outperformed firms that did not have those cultural traits by a huge margin.*

Mindsets drive behaviours, and behaviours support (or obstruct) the management practices that lead to successful or unsuccessful change efforts. Bringing these mindsets to the surface and working with them is the only way to make sustainable change happen.

Established work patterns and habits, the corporate culture, can be changed and harnessed at all levels within an organisation to elevate performance while at the same time creating a fulfilled workforce. As an organisation's culture reflects a current set of behaviours, then to develop a culture that supports high performance we need to identify and change these behaviours.

Join the AmCham HR Leadership Group and The Pacific Institute on the 17th October from 8am to 1pm in Ebay, Blanchardstown as we explore how Mindset affects Performance and how to bring about sustainable change in your organisation.

This conference is part of the HR Leadership 2014 Programme proudly partnered by Laya Healthcare. There is no charge to attend.

* John P. Kotter and James Heskett monitored corporate culture in 207 major US companies, in 22 different industries, over an 11 year period and their research showed a clear relationship between culture and performance.

DNA of Leadership, Xilinx

Guest Speaker: Various

Proudly Sponsored by: Laya Healthcare

Laya Healthcare

Successful organizations think globally, allow failure, encourage risk, welcome open source ideas, and support effective development. Few would argue that the leadership of organizations does not matter.

Few would maintain that having merely competent leaders is all that is needed to compete and win in today's challenging business environment. And few would gamble the future of their organizations on a throw of the dice when it comes to developing leaders.

Join senior business leaders on the 29th May 2014 as they explore what are the forces that will affect Leadership Development for 2020 and beyond? Are the leadership capabilities that we see today sufficient to ensure companies remain successful in the future and drive growth in a very fast changing environment.

What is the DNA of Great Leadership?

AmCham Global Mobility Survey & Breakfast Briefing, Fitzwilliam Hotel, St Stephens Green

Within the myriad tax systems across Europe and the USA, the legal obligations, the tax treatment, and filing deadlines vary radically.  With Ireland increasingly a destination for key executives and from which executives are being sent overseas, Global Mobility issues are a priority concern. Employers need to ensure both employee and employer tax obligations and responsibilities are met in a compliant and correct manner.

The American Chamber Global Mobility Survey, which we are conducting with the support of Taxback.com, is looking to establish the areas of concern for our members so that we can share solutions or best practices, and to advocate for change. Your input would be greatly appreciated to ensure that we have the widest possible participation.

Click Here to Complete the Survey - The deadline for completion of the survey is 4th March 2014.

On the 27th March we will hold an interactive breakfast briefing based on the results of the survey with its main outputs forming the basis for discussion and a deep dive (in case study format) into the top 2-3 issues highlighted.

National STEM Internship Information Meeting, Hewlett Packard Galway

I write to invite you to attend a leadership round-table to engage your organisation in a significant national initiative with the potential to be of strategic importance to sustain and build industries based on skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has recently issued a call to Third Level colleges for proposals to deliver a unique Postgraduate Programme aimed at providing a wider pool of experienced skilled talent being made available to industry. Being piloted in 2014, the programme will involve suitably qualified and selected students gaining nationally accredited on-the-job experience, thereby boosting their employability and their targeted skill set simultaneously. Through the involvement of the American Chamber industry representatives have been active in identifying the types of skills-sets that are being targeted and the structure of the programme with a number of Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and the HEA.

The 'PGPP EOI call' document on the page linked to here (http://www.hea.ie/en/news/hea-call-expressions-interest-participate-pilot-programme-professional-practice) on the HEA website is the key document for further information which will be very useful to your executive team in considering participation in the programme.

I am asking that your organisation become involved, and to that end the Chamber is organising a number of information roundtables on the proposed pilot of this programme:

  • Hewlett Packard, Galway 7th November from 9.00am-10.30am.  Registration from 8.45am onwards.

If you wish to send a suitably senior representative to this meeting please click the link below.

Your representative can contact Jonathan Small at J.Small@amcham.ie for further information on the meeting.

This government initiative has the potential to drive tighter industry-academic alignment and hence I
trust that you'll consider this invitation very seriously.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Gantly

Improving Return on Workforce Investment through Workforce Intelligence & Analytics, The Foundry - Google

Guest Speaker: Various

Proudly Sponsored by: PwC

PwC

Executive management often refers to employees as their "most valuable asset" - and with good reason.  The workforce represents most organisations' single-largest annual investment, one that can single-handedly control the financial top - and bottom- lines, and directly influences long term competitiveness through the level of agility and innovation it exerts.

Yet many organisations do not have the baseline information about this critical asset that they need to make well informed decisions that deeply impact the business.  Without a handle on even this simplest of information, executives of successful companies readily admit that they got to where they are by making "good guesses" when it came to people related decisions.  But the world of good guesses isn't the platform for building sustained success in an increasingly competitive business world.  Organisations that crack the code on maximising the return on workforce investment will create a sustainable competitive advantage.

If you would like to know more about cracking this code you will not want to miss our American Chamber special event at Google on 31st October, featuring an iconic organisation which is known to be ahead of the game in relation to workforce analytics and a leading global consultancy which has built up a deep reservoir of knowledge of HR metrics.

Session Overview

PwC will share the results of their recent benchmark study of AmCham companies in Ireland, whereby they conducted analysis of key human capital metrics. The results of which ought to give an insight into how Irish companies perform against other territories.  It will of course be of particular interest to those who participated in the survey.

Scott Pollak, who is a Principal with PwC and the global co-leader of Saratoga (PwC's HR Analytics tool - which supports organizations to maximise workforce engagement, productivity, leadership, and retention), based in San Jose, California, will share his insights into how analytics can help organisations make better workforce decisions to drive business performance.

Helen Tynan will be discussing how she uses human capital metrics and analytics to shape behaviours and results in her role as Director of People Operations for Dublin, and HR Business Partner for two organisations (SMB Sales and Global Customer Services). Helen joined Google in 2010, with prior HR experience of 20+ years with companies such as Dell, Oracle, Amdahl-Fujitsu and General Electric.

After coffee and networking - we look to encourage a level of debate and challenge for our speakers via a Q&A session, and will round off with a tour of Google's spectacular new office environment at the Foundry.

From 08:30 Registration & Refreshment

09:30 Sharp Session Commences

The session will conclude with a tour of The Foundry at approximately 12 noon.
