Chamber Celebrates Independence Day

Joanne Richardson, Ambassador Rooney & Gerard P. Kilcommins celebrate Independence day

The American Chamber celebrated Independence Day this month with 400 members attending the annual gala lunch at the Four Season Hotel, Dublin. Joining Chief Executive Joanne Richardson, and President Gerard P. Kilcommins, was guest of honour Ambassador Dan Rooney (pictured right).

Members also received an insightful talk from Martin Walker award winning journalist, author and business strategist. Mr. Walker gave his take on the global economy, including his unique perspective on how Ireland stands to benefit from global demographic trends, due to its young and growing population.

There was even more to celebrate this year, as the lunch coincided with the release of the annual American Chamber Workforce Activation Survey. This research revealed that US companies in Ireland currently have in excess of 2,000 vacancies. This story received much attention and was widely reported across national media. More Details>>

The lunch was kindly sponsored by ARAMARK

New 'Jobs Board' Launched To Assist Members' Recruitment

In response the unprecedented level of public interest in the Chamber's Workforce Activation Survey we are launching  a new AmCham Jobs Board, as a value add service  to all members. The  initiative  allows members to supply a URL Link to current vacancies they are  advertising and a company logo for display on our Jobs Board.  Candidates will access the link from the AmCham Home Page  and submit CV s directly to the relevant company.

We hope this initiative will aid members to find the right people for vacancies. If your organisation is currently recruiting we would appreciate your engagement in this process. To participate simply email Zara (z.conaty@amcham.ie) with the logo and link you wish to have uploaded.

The  initiative  allows members to supply a URL Link to current vacancies they are  advertising and a company logo for display on our Jobs Wall.  Candidates will access the link from the AmCham Home Page  and submit CV s directly to the relevant company.

The Chamber has continued its process of engagement with the new Government to ensure the policy priorities of members are fully understood and to brief the Cabinet on ongoing importance of US FDI in Ireland. A meeting was held in May with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD, following which he sent members a letter assuring them that the current rate of corporate tax would not be changed.

Further meetings were also held with Minister for Education & Skills, Ruairi Quinn TD and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Richard Bruton TD, in July.

Voice of US Companies Heard Loud & Clear

July 1st saw the publication of the annual 'American Business' supplement in the 'Irish Times.' At 16 pages, the 2011 edition is the largest since the initiative began.

To read the supplement click here (PDF).

The supplement follows the opening six months of the year where press coverage of the American Chamber has significantly increased. This means that the voice of US companies is being heard loudly in Ireland, and ensures that how to best retain and goow investment remains a priority for all concerned. In total the Chamber has received 97 press hits across a range of media, in the first six months of the year. Topics covered including skills, taxation, Ireland international reputation, and of course the Chamber's Golden Jubilee.

Events & More Upcoming from AmCham

Following a highly active opening to the year the Chamber is now actively planning its events and activities for the second half of 2011. This will include a continuation of the popular Innovation in People Practise and Business Transformation Seminar Series. October will see the hosting of a Chamber Business Lunch in Cork. Details of all of these events will be posted on the website in the coming weeks.

An economic report assessing the importance of FDI in Ireland has been commissioned by the Chamber. The research which will be launched in the third quarter will inform Chamber policy and validate the importance of US FDI in Ireland in the minds of decision makers. It has also been designed as a valuable information resource to members and stakeholders.

A special Labour Day BBQ has been organised for US Ex Pats in the Chamber's US Executive Circle. The event takes place on September 1st and is kindly hosted by Byrne Wallace. If you, or a colleague, are a US expatriate and would like to attend full details are on amcham.ie/events.

One of the highlights of the year is always the Thanksgiving Business Lunch, and this year will be no exception. We hope to see as many members as possible at the lunch in the Four Seasons Hotel, on November 24th.
