Allergan make major investment announcement

The American Chamber of Commerce Ireland has welcomed today's news that Allergan, is to invest $350 million in its Westport site. The investment will expand the capacity of both the company's manufacturing and R&D operations which will result in 200 new jobs over the next four years.

Speaking on the announcement, American Chamber Chief Executive, Joanne Richardson said, "Allergan have been a valuable employer in Mayo since 1977, and it is extremely welcome that they have created further opportunities with over 200 jobs. This is a high calibre investment, that shows Ireland is very much part of the company's long term and strategic plans. This announcement is a further welcome endorsement in Ireland as a location for Foreign Direct Investment, and the entire team at Allergan should be congratulated for their success.

"Allergan is the latest of many US companies that have announced new employment opportunities in Ireland," stated Richardson. "The 600 US companies here continue to play a vital role in Ireland's economy, employing 100,000 directly, and have a total investment in Ireland of $190 billion. In 2011 US companies accounted for three quarters of all new IDA jobs, in what was a record year for FDI in Ireland."

The American Chamber runs an online ‘job board' giving people information on jobs available within US companies in Ireland. This can be seen at
