Innovation will maximise Opportunities

Monday May 10th 2010 The American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland today welcomed the appointment of an industry led implementation group to oversee the execution of the recommendations of the Innovation Task Force Report, released in March.

The American Chamber had expressed concern last month that the Report was in danger of ‘being left on a shelf to gather dust' and had called for the establishment of an industry led committee to expedite the process.

Ms Joanne Richardson Chief Executive of the American Chamber said, "In today's global investment environment, intense competition means we need to look to new areas of innovation and added value to generate and sustain our economic success. Ireland needs to continue to offer something distinctive.

"The Innovation Taskforce Report recommended a number of measures which can make Ireland a global innovation hub and we welcome Minister O'Keeffe's appointment of an implementation group to help bring these recommendations to reality."

"Innovation will maximise Ireland's Economic Opportunities and it is encouraging that the Minister has not delayed in establishing this Group. We particularly welcome the strong industry presence on the implementation group. It is important that those at the coalface are involved in guiding and directing the taskforce recommendations," said Ms. Richardson, adding "this will ensure that the focus of the group remains on ensuring Ireland continues to be attractive to foreign investors and will assist in the overall aim of increasing employment and economic growth."
