Submission on Waste Management
The American Chamber of Commerce Ireland is making a submission on the application of levies to waste facilities to the Department of the Environment, Heritage, and Local Government.
Ireland has a solid reputation for being ‘business friendly' to foreign investors as it seeks to attract investment to create jobs. The total impact of Foreign Direct Investment on the Irish economy is significant with over 235,000 jobs and €110B in exports dependent on Foreign Direct Investment. Over the years this approach has been enormously successful, to the enormous benefit of the Irish economy and people
The Chamber believes that Ireland's waste regime should encourage the expansion of the management and technology capability of its waste industry beyond collection and landfill, and bring required economies of scale to bear on lowering waste management costs.
The Chamber is submitting that Government proposals for the regulation of the waste management regime in Ireland must be framed in a way that ensures that these regulations are applied in a fair manner that reasonably reflects the environmental objectives of waste policy, balanced by the need to increase competiveness.
